Chicago-area drivers should allow extra time Friday for an active downtown disruption, South and Northwest Side reroutes, Kennedy construction, and Tri-State Tollway lane reductions. Details below were verified from official agency alerts available Thursday evening.
DOWNTOWN CHICAGO
• State Street at Wacker Drive: CTA reports a street blockage near State/Wacker, with #29, #36 and #62 buses rerouted. The alert is listed through “TBD” and does not confirm a full street closure. Expect local delays in the north Loop; use Clark, Dearborn or another parallel street and check conditions before arriving.
CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOODS
• Halsted Street near 51st Street: Southbound #8 buses are rerouted via 51st, Morgan and Garfield through 7:00 p.m. Friday. CTA identifies a planned reroute but does not confirm a full closure to general traffic. Allow extra time and consider Morgan for southbound travel.
• Northbound Jeffery Boulevard, 73rd–75th streets: Construction reroutes #J14, #15 and #N5 buses through October 26 at 8:00 p.m. A full roadway closure is not confirmed, but lane restrictions or slow traffic are possible. Consider Stony Island Avenue if congestion builds.
MAJOR HIGHWAYS AND EXPRESSWAYS
